Regenerative Agriculture
We practice a method of farming called regenerative agriculture, which goes beyond typical sustainability standards to cultivate a full ecosystem on our farm. In short, it’s about leaving the land better than you found it. There isn’t a certification for regenerative agriculture like there is for organic farming. However, our practice includes:
Natural pest controls instead of harmful pesticides
Rotating crops and pasture so as not to tax our soil
No-till soil management to reduce erosion and water runoff
Replenishing the soil with nutrient-rich cow manure instead of chemical fertilizers
100% of whey leftover from cheesemaking is fed to our pigs
Through monocropping and other extractive methods, industrial farms produce food at unmatched scale, but at the cost of soil health, biodiversity, fossil fuel use, and pollution. Regenerative agriculture emphasizes working with the land rather than pulling resources from it. We return carbon and critical nutrients like nitrogen to the soil, which reduces greenhouse gasses in our atmosphere, improves biodiversity, and benefits our local water cycle. This is the legacy we want to leave to future generations.
