TWO Super Golds at the 2024 World Cheese Awards
We are ecstatic and honored to announce that Mt Alice and Mad River Blue both received Super Gold at the World Cheese Awards 2024!
A truly global cheese event, 4,786 cheeses from around the world were evaluated by 240 international judges to identify 104 Super Golds, which were then re-judged to find the Top 14 Cheeses in the world.
We are one of 7 US cheesemakers to receive Super Gold, and the only US cheesemaker to receive TWO this year! In fact, we’re the only US Farmstead Cheesemaker to receive 2 Super Golds in 1 year… ever!
As a small farmstead operation, it’s incredibly validating to be recognized in the top 2% of cheesemakers internationally!
Many folks are unfamiliar with the size of our business, so here are some quick facts to give a little perspective:
We have ~10 employees + 3 family-workers on the farm, creamery, and our farm store
Our milking herd of ~46 cows are never confined (except when getting milked) and have ample space to move and ruminate outside year-round!
We are certified organic and 99% grass fed (1% is a sprinkle of organic grain when they’re getting milked). If not on pasture, our herd enjoys hay our team labored to put up for their winter nourishment!
We compost our cows manure to fertilize our fields, and are constantly assessing the health of our soil and pastures as we know it connects to our herd's health, the quality of our milk, and thus the quality of our cheeses.
So really, this honor of 2 Super Golds is as much a reflection of our cows and farm team as it is of our cheesemakers!
